Updating you because you care!

Its been brought to my attention that I need to update my blog. Once again I have let down my faithful readers, both of you! I’ve made this blog a special place to post updates after shows. Perhaps a little behind the scenes look into the wonderful world of all the drumming I’m doing. Not to down play the gigs I have been playing lately, but the blog posts and pictures from said gigs would be redundant. I guess I should approach this more like the Texas weatherman. Even though its hot every damn day and it never rains, he still has to report the news.

Lately I have picked up a ton of gigs from my good friend Steve Garcia and his bands of pick pockets who call themselves “Not the Rachels”. These gigs are always a blast and are never short of an interesting night. They mostly take place at Rookies in the Woodlands. This is Steves home on Saturday night and I’m happy to get invited over to play some music and watch TV at his place. On occasion I’ll fill in on other nights with Not the Rachles but this other guy, I wont use his real name, lets call him Drian Bavis, gets first pick. PSH! No but really, I have to thank him for the gigs. Lately it seems my best gigs fall off of his plate at dinner. Its how I got introduced to Woodlands Point and Steve. I love Drian and his pink drums…anyway!!!

There will be a few gigs coming shortly that will be blog material. One of which is with the Daniel Pratt Band. I cant remember his old drummers name..odd. We are playing a great benefit show at WoodsEdge Church Sept 30th to help our good friend Zack Jones and his family! I highly suggest you come out and support and phenomenal cause.  The second show will be with Good Shive Low in Dallas. The album is finally done and pressed. Its time to play a few release shows. I’ll spend my entire weekend of Oct 14th in Dallas and the surrounding area helping them release this monster of an album. It’s really really good. You can find it streaming online if you want a sample. Hit up my Facebook, they are on there..give it a listen.

So there it is! Leave some replies. Tell me how much you love Good Shive Love. Let me know that Daniel Pratt once beat you at beach volleyball. Have you ever seen Drian Bavis’s pink drums? Let me know! Do you miss Paris Green and want to write us a blank check to play at your next Catalina wine mixer? Want me to blog more nonsense type stuff or stick to the shows worth blogging only? I can tell you this..google sends more people my way about my tattoos than they do about my drumming. Should I post pictures of my elephant tattoo?

xoxo

Want to know where that thunder came from last night? Ask WoodsEdge!

Just beyond the malls, fancy restaurants and busy streets of the Woodlands, you will find Woodsedge Church. Tucked away in its own corner of peace and tranquility, Woodsedge offers a wonderful environment for people of all ages to gather in worship.

On what was your average hot Texas day, The Daniel Pratt Band arrived at Woodsedge to lead their Wednesday night worship service.  We warned them, seriously we did.  When I got there, Daniel said “Hey I don’t know what you are used to, but this guy is gonna hit harder than anyone you normally have behind that shield”. I’m guessing they didn’t believe him.  Let me explain..almost every church I have played in, has a shield around the drums.  This shield can range from a small shield that only covers the front of the drums, to a full-blown, front back and top enclosure.  Woodsedge was set up with a good 3/4 sheild. It went all the way around the front and side of the kit and also covered the top.

Yup not Enough.  Shortly after we began, the guys approached Daniel and myself..They needed to close it off completely!!

The three guys proceeded to close me into my own personal box of loud drums!!  I didnt mind, whatever helps!  After a few bounce tests to make sure the shield wasnt going to come crashing down when I started playing, we were ready to go.

The band then relaxed a little back stage to prepare for what was about to happen.  As we took the stage, all the seats were filled with people ready to worship. We were there for one reason..to lead.

As the welcome prayers came to a close, the faint sound of a keyboard rose through the speakers, followed immediately by JJ Coles rendition of a Hillsong intro.  Then comes the drums. Simple. Building in with Mr Zack Jones on bass. Building..building…Then we power into the first verse of the song!! I’m not kidding you..it was at this moment that the skies opened up.  I could see the lightning through the windows. Seemed odd but perhaps, just perhaps…The Daniel Pratt Band brought the thunder. You think? Yeah I think so..

The night continued as lightning flashed and music was being played.  The people of Woodsedge lifted their hands and sang at the top of their lungs.  It felt great. There were moments when I would remove my molds just to hear them sing. Such a powerful thing!

It’s always a pleasure to join the Daniel Pratt Band any time.  This night was one of the exact reasons I do it..just amazing!

Also on behalf of the Daniel Pratt Band I would like to apologize for the hearing loss suffered by those of you in the first few rows.  Also if  you had any trees fall in your yard or traffic stopping you from making a fast trip home….sorry!
